Alexa Melanson Closes an Impressive Career at Southern Connecticut State
After four memorable seasons, Alexa Melanson has wrapped up her collegiate gymnastics career at Southern Connecticut State University, leaving behind a legacy of consistency, determination, and steady improvement.
Hailing from Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, Melanson became a dependable performer for the Owls, competing primarily on the balance beam and floor exercise. Throughout her career, she continued to raise her level, earning personal bests of 9.800 on beam and 9.850 on floor while establishing herself as one of Southern Connecticut’s most reliable competitors.
One of the standout moments of her career came in 2024 when she qualified as an individual for the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships on both the balance beam and floor exercise. It was a well-deserved reward for years of hard work and showcased her ability to perform on one of college gymnastics’ biggest stages.
Beyond the scores, Melanson also embraced a leadership role within the program. As an upperclassman, she spoke about enjoying the opportunity to mentor younger teammates and help build the positive culture that has become a hallmark of Southern Connecticut gymnastics.
While her competitive NCAA career has now come to an end, Melanson’s journey is far from over. Like many graduating student-athletes, she leaves with valuable experience both in competition and in building her personal brand during the NIL era.
